What are the bumps on the back of my arms?

A long long time ago...

As a 15 year old I was very aware that my skin did not look like the beautiful impossibly perfect and blemish free skin of the models in the magazines. My arms were anything but smooth, and I would cover them up because I would pick at the little bumps leaving marks and scars that I was incredibly embarrassed by. Today my arms are beautifully smooth, and I want to give that 15 year old girl a hug and let her know what I know now. First of all, photoshop and film touch up art plus a lot of make up with expert lighting is a pretty good magic trick in that industry. Second, Keratosis Pilaris, or KP, is an incredibly common skin condition that affects 40% of adults young and old. Third, there's an awesome product called Bumps Be Gone that helps to clear and smooth out those bumps.

Maybe you are that girl, or maybe you know someone who is. Read on to see what KP is and How you can make it better!

What is Keratosis Pilaris?

Also know as chicken skin, or strawberry skin, KP symptoms appear as small, hard bumps, usually surrounded by inflamed red skin and generally appear on the upper arms, legs and the buttocks.

The guilty culprit in this condition is Keratin. Keratin is basically the type of protein that builds our hair, skin and nails, sometimes we want keratin, to make our hair thicker, or to achieve stronger nails, but not when it comes to keratin creating thick bumpy skin. When keratin builds up in our skin it plugs the hair follicle, makes a bump and then the skin around it becomes inflamed.

Keratosis Pilaris is fairly common, and it generally runs in the family, no one really knows why some people have it and others don’t. Interestingly it may be linked to gut health. Recently the study between skin health and gut health has become a growing topic of interest. This article from the Canadian Digestive Health Foundation is a great article if you’d like to read more about the gut/skin link.

The best way to topically reduce the appearance of keratosis pilaris is to use Bodelevy Bumps Be Gone on a regular basis. This all natural choice is effective and made from plants, so it's safe for you and our planet!
